What is TimeGate you ask?
TimeGate is a special event co-sponsored by Stargate Atlanta and The Atlanta Gallifreyans. It began life in early 2005 when opportunity presented itself: we had a venue booked for March 26 for a different event, that event got cancelled, but the reservation on the hall was non-refundable. So we decided 'hey, what the heck, let's throw the one-day event we've always wanted to do!' We had about 2 weeks to plan and promote the first TimeGate. We had no idea what to expect, especially with such short notice. To our surprise, we had around 80 people show up! We were completely floored. And in an amazing stroke of luck or cosmological alignment, March 26 ended up being the day that the first episode of the new Doctor Who series aired on BBC (we didn't know that when we booked the hall for the original event, no air date had yet been announced at the time). So many disparate pieces fell together to make that first TimeGate extremely special! We hosted two additional mini-cons that year, in July and in November.
Our 4th TimeGate was October of 2006, almost a full year after the previous one. We drew our biggest attendance yet. We had the pleasure of having Atlanta Radio Theatre Company perform a special set for us, and we also had Barrie J. Clark and his wife Cookie do a very well-attended workshop on Dalek building. We introduced a LaserTag event, thanks to Adrian Havens, and Adam Levenstein conducted a Team Trivia event that was a huge success.
In July of 2007 we held our fifth TimeGate. Our guests this time were Louis Robinson, former BBC Film Editor who'd
worked on many shows including Doctor Who, and Keith Adams, Visual Effects Designer for both Stargate series, in addition to
Barrie J. Clark, Adrian Havens and Prof. Satyre's Sci-Fried Side Show. During the day we announced plans to expand TG to
a full-weekend convention, and that we'd already signed an agreement with our hotel.
