Daleks, K9, Darth Vadar and the Oods interrupted the Music from Outer Space concert to terrify the audience of young sci-fi fans.
The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra presented the music of composer John Willams and others in a celebration of TV and film greats like Star Wars, Superman and the BBC's Doctor Who and Red Dwarf.
Presentation by actress Elisabeth Sladen (Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures) and husband Brian Miller (a voice of the Daleks) was less than slick and conductor Ian McMillan had to request a second attempt at the countdown to Barry Gray's Thunderbirds March.
Aimed at a teenage audience, the concert attracted guests as young as four who found the one and a half hour extravaganza a little too long but the older members of the audience were rapt.
The interval provided many a photo opportunity as a full host of characters paraded the foyer. Camera shutters and mobile phones clicked away as youngsters dared to stand by Davros, creator of the Daleks and Evil Santa whilst their mums and dads captured the moment for posterity.
A second-half highlight was the world premiere of Sam Watts' The Adventures of Sarah Jane Suite.
The 27-year old composer, a guest in the audience, took an appreciative bow from his circle seat.
